There are leaders and there are followers in life. That's as true in the world of fashion as it is true anywhere else. Some women are trend setters and can make brown boots look good. She wears a pair of boots one day and everyone else is wearing them the next.
Just doing something different isn't the key, either. There's the matter of attitude or confidence, too. The trendsetter who wears brown hiking boots when everyone else is wearing black heels isn't wearing the boots because she doesn't know any better. On the contrary, she knows exactly what she's doing.
The same girl will be the one who was using hobo handbags when the others were carrying clutches. When they see her with a hobo, they follow suit. Her secret is charisma, what just what is that, anyway?
It's simplistic to say that she's the most beautiful girl in town. If you look at the top supermodels of the past couple of decades, the ones who made the most impact were not the most stunning looking women, but the least. What makes them attractive is their attitude. A gap toothed model doesn't hide her teeth or run to the dentist to get them fixed, she shows them off.
What is it that makes us admire them so much? It must have something to do with the fact that we all have imperfections, but feel ashamed of them. These models are an inspiration because they give women the feeling they can be themselves, no matter what other people think.
When models like these endorse a perfume, women run to buy the perfume. Like magic, a dab of the perfume changes the buyer into someone more like the model. Her confidence is lifted a little bit. It may be based on an illusion, but that's how fashion works.
Did you know that the word glamor comes from a word that used to mean, 'magic spell?' When you think about it, that's what fashion is: magic. The sorceress waves her wand and suddenly every woman in the world is wearing shirts for girls. She waves it again and they are wearing frilly blouses.
People have been studying charisma for centuries, looking for a way to unlock its secrets, but much of what makes a person charismatic remains unknown. Why does one girl with a gap between her teeth rise to super stardom while another girl, equally attractive in all other respects, does not? The gap between her teeth is just a slight 'flaw, ' nothing more. It will probably be a long time before the magic of charisma is understood.
