There are many variations of divination practiced by people. For example, those who practice palmistry can read a person's love line to see if it predicts a happy long-term love life or a more jagged and troubled series of relationships. The life line can determine whether one will live long or not.
A form often popularized in movies is necromancy or communicating with spirits. This can be done in a number of ways. Seances and ouija board readings are two forms of necromancy. Sometimes people will consult a fortune teller to communicate with deceased pets, family members or long lost relatives. They can do this for insight or to receive warnings that help guide the living.
Botanomancy is a form that burns herbs or tree branches. The most popular branches to burn are Vervain and Briar. The fortune teller reads the smoke to determine what course of action should be taken.
Another popular form is reading cards such as tarot cards. Also known as cartomancy, this form is sued by fortune tellers who put the cards in special arrangements and then foretell certain aspects of the card reader's projected future. Many people like to have tarot readings done for them.
